Oliberté new Sizing ChartPublished by: admin on April 3rd, 2010 | Filed under Uncategorized Comment now » Why Made in Africa? This is Africa. So what’s with this whole Africa thing people ask us sometimes. It’s simple, Oliberté is about creating a better Africa, that people see differently. And we do it by creating premium shoes, made of the highest quality possible working with amazing people – all in Africa. This is an Africa that is full of pride, power and liberty and aside from just being a tag line, Oliberté believes if you can show that anything, especially shoes made in Africa can be of the highest quality in the world combined with the right styles, and done in a way that respects every one from farmers to factory works to customers, we really do believe this is the best way to show the new and real Africa will thrive. That’s why we do it in Africa – that’s why Oliberté is Made in Africa. Published by: admin on October 8th, 2009 | Filed under Uncategorized Comment now » Why get started on Oliberté?As we were beginning to talk to a number of charities interested in acquiring mbas without borders, I kept thinking what’s next – I talked to a lot of contacts and friends in the industry particularly in Africa and it came back to one thing – that they said “we don’t need another charity – we need jobs – we need something the world is willing to buy (i.e. a product) from Africa. A product that we can be proud of. So i strated doing some digging at it turns out that there is not one single company working exlusively in Africa to make shoes for the international market. You have the largest amount of natural rubber in Liberia and the Largest selection of livestock in Africa in Ethiopia plus a growing manufacturing industry – so why not!?! So that’s how the idea started. Published by: admin on October 8th, 2009 | Filed under Uncategorized Comment now » We are not a charity nor do we want to be.It gets a bit tough to be honest – people are always saying to me so what is your charitable angle – do you give to schools, do you give shoes away – but my answer is NO! For 5 years, I ran a charity and worked in the charitable space – I know what works and what doesn’t – in an emergency or disaster you need traditional aid – but not with building up a country or people. What works (for me at least) is playing with Africa on an equal playing field, treating all like equals – so the more shoes people buy and talk about, the more people we can have our factories hire and ensure they are being paid fairly and treated with respect. You won’t see us (I hope) having to be forced into giving into traditional charity – we will be charitable but to the people and the communities that help build Oliberté. With Oliberté, there will be profit, but a good chunk of that profit will go back into showing the pride of Africa while at the same time supporting the very people who help build Oliberté. I would rather have a direct and long-term influence on the potentially 1,000 people that will work for Oliberté (in the coming years) from our farmers, to factory workers to operating managers instead of indirectly and loosely helping 1,000,000.
